The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that it is not considering any proposal for a deep-sea energy pipeline connecting India with Oman and other Gulf countries, contrary to recent media reports.

In a statement issued on June 16, the Ministry said it had noted a series of reports suggesting that the Government of India was actively pursuing a project referred to as the Middle East-India Deepwater Pipeline (MEIDP), which would link Gujarat with Oman and other countries in the Gulf region.

The Ministry categorically stated that no such proposal is currently under consideration. It added that there are no active discussions or negotiations on the project with Oman or any other Gulf country at any level within the Ministry.

The clarification was issued to put an end to speculation surrounding the reported pipeline project.
