Girish Aggarwal new MD of APM Terminals, Pipavav

Incumbent MD Jakob Friis Sorensen to start new role as Senior Advisor – Growth Initiatives, Indonesia.

APM Terminals, Pipavav has appointed Girish Aggarwal as managing director w.e.f January 1, 2023.

"Incumbent MD Jakob Friis Sorensen will relocate to Jakarta and start a new role as Senior Advisor – Growth Initiatives, Indonesia, also effective January 1, 2023. Sunay Mukerjee will take over the role previously held by Girish Aggarwal and become the new Chief Operating Officer of APM Terminals, Mumbai (Gateway Terminals India)," says a release from APM Terminals.

Jonathan R. Goldner, Managing Director, Asia and Middle East, APM Terminals says: "Girish Aggarwal has led Gateway Terminals India as COO since 2019, initiating GTI's major berth and infrastructure improvement works. He and his team have consistently delivered to our customers and spearheaded one the most successful implementation of LEAN methodology among our terminals.

"I would like to thank Jakob for leading Pipavav since January 2019. During his tenure, Jakob and the team heroically rebuilt the port from the devastating typhoon Tauktae while in the middle of severe Covid challenges. Jakob also developed and advanced GPPL's long-term strategy including signing a memorandum of understanding for a concession extension, and creating a new port master plan containing a wide range of new business lines."

Aggarwal was a gold medallist in Bachelor of Technology, and received a Post Graduate Diploma in Operations and Systems from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). He joined Maersk in 2013 where, prior to leading GTI, he was the CFO for Maersk's Global Shared Centres. Before joining Maersk, he worked with Genpact, Ariba and Hindustan Unilever, the release said.
