GE Shipping to acquire 81,609-dwt Kamsarmax bulk carrier

The Great Eastern Shipping Company (GE Shipping) has contracted to buy a secondhand Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier of about 81,609 dwt as part of its fleet expansion plans. The 2019-built vessel is expected to join the company’s fleet in Q3 FY27.

The acquisition, contracted on September 8, 2026, will be financed entirely through internal accruals. GE Shipping said the purpose of the acquisition is to expand its fleet.

The company currently owns 40 vessels, comprising 25 tankers and 15 dry bulk carriers, with an aggregate capacity of 3.24 million dwt. Its dry bulk fleet includes two Capesize, 10 Kamsarmax, one Ultramax and two Supramax vessels. Fleet utilisation is close to 100%.

The acquisition follows GE Shipping’s purchase of a secondhand Long Range 2 (LR2) tanker of about 110,000 dwt, which the company contracted to buy in June 2026. The 2015-built tanker was expected to join the fleet in Q2 FY27 and was also being financed entirely through internal accruals.

At the time of the LR2 tanker acquisition, GE Shipping had 39 vessels, comprising 24 tankers and 15 dry bulk carriers, with a combined capacity of 3.19 million dwt. The company had also contracted to buy a secondhand Medium Range product tanker, with that transaction expected to be completed in Q1 FY27.

GE Shipping has also contracted to acquire another secondhand Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier, with the transaction expected to be completed in Q3 FY27.
