APEDA facilitates first sea export of millet foods to New Zealand
The one-tonne shipment by Bengaluru-based Infini Agrotek followed buyer connections made through APEDA-backed trade events and global market outreach.
India has exported its first-ever sea shipment of botanical-infused ready-to-cook millet functional foods from Karnataka to New Zealand, with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) facilitating the consignment flagged off on June 3, 2026.
The shipment, comprising one metric tonne of value-added millet-based products, was exported by Infini Agrotek, Bengaluru. The export reflects growing global demand for innovative millet-based products made from India's traditional grains and highlights expanding opportunities for value-added agricultural exports.
The export order from New Zealand was secured through business networking and market outreach efforts supported by APEDA. The exporter had participated in APEDA-backed trade promotion events, including World Food India 2025, Indus Food 2025 and Gulfood 2026, which helped the company connect with international buyers, expand its customer base and strengthen its presence in overseas markets.
The shipment was virtually flagged off by APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev. Congratulating the company, he appreciated its efforts in developing innovative millet-based products and successfully entering international markets.
During the interaction, the exporter was encouraged to make use of APEDA's export promotion initiatives and continue participating in trade fairs and exhibitions to expand its market reach and explore new business opportunities.
According to APEDA, the export of botanical-infused millet functional foods highlights the growing potential of India's value-added agricultural products and is expected to benefit millet-growing farmers through increased demand and improved market access. The initiative is also expected to strengthen India's agri-export ecosystem and create opportunities across the millet value chain.
APEDA continues to support exports of agricultural and processed food products through market development initiatives, capacity-building programmes and participation in major domestic and international trade events. The successful shipment demonstrates increasing global acceptance of innovative millet-based products and reinforces the export potential of India's millet sector.
Millets have become an important part of India's agricultural export basket due to their nutritional benefits, climate resilience and rising demand among consumers in global markets. The development and export of value-added millet products are creating new opportunities for farmers, food processors and exporters while supporting the diversification of India's agri-food exports.
