Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) said it has maintained operational continuity across key parameters despite disruptions linked to developments in the Middle East. The port reported stable operations supported by planning, resource deployment, and coordination with stakeholders as global supply chains continue to face uncertainty.

The port recorded an improvement in import container dwell time, which declined from 25.17 hours in February 2026 to 22.68 hours in March 2026. The change reflects progress in cargo clearance and process management at the port.

Throughout the fiscal year, efficiency initiatives continued to record uptake. Direct Port Delivery stood at 74.57 per percent and Direct Port Entry at 45.74 per cent in FY 2025–26. The port said these measures supported cargo flow and reduced congestion within the terminal ecosystem.

The average turnaround time at the port was reported at 22.61 hours. The port said this indicates vessel handling performance has been maintained during the period.

JNPA reported a rise in transshipment container volumes from 5 per cent to 16 per cent. The port said it continued to manage operations during the increase in volume. Storage utilisation remained at around 50 per cent of container holding capacity. An additional 9.2 acres was allocated for export container storage within the port area. Reefer container occupancy was also reported at 50 per cent.

The port said it constituted a task force and maintained coordination with terminal operators and other stakeholders. It said real-time monitoring was implemented along with measures such as the ‘Back to Town’ movement of tractor trailers and temporary transshipment of cargo to manage congestion.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority operates container terminals, including NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT. It also operates a shallow water berth for general cargo through Nhava Sheva Distribution Terminal Pvt Ltd. A liquid cargo terminal at the port is managed by a BPCL and IOCL consortium, while an additional liquid terminal is to be operated by JSW JNPT Liquid Terminal Pvt. Ltd.

The port manages a multi-product special economic zone across 277 hectares. It is also developing a greenfield port at Vadhvan in Maharashtra. The project is positioned as an all-weather deep draught port and is expected to expand capacity in the region.
