Amazon India has expanded health and insurance benefits for nearly 90,000 delivery associates across its operations network and plans to increase its network of Ashray rest centres to 250 by the end of 2026 as part of its investment in associate safety, health and wellbeing. The company said delivery associates across all last-mile programmes will receive enhanced medical and accident coverage, while new Ashray centres will provide additional rest and recovery support during work routes.

The expanded health coverage includes Mediclaim benefits of up to ₹1,50,000, OPD coverage of up to ₹10,000 and Group Personal Accident coverage of up to ₹1 million. According to the company, the benefits are designed to support routine medical expenses, hospitalisation and compensation for temporary or permanent disabilities, helping cover both immediate medical needs and income loss due to injury.

The wellness programme will cover delivery associates and up to three family members annually. It includes unlimited multilingual virtual doctor consultations, two free in-person OPD visits for each family every year, and discounts on diagnostics, pharmacy, dental and eye care. Amazon said the programme also includes tools to support preventive health and fitness.

The company has also organised nationwide health camps in partnership with a third-party insurer to provide free health check-ups to delivery associates. The camps offer services including eye examinations, dental check-ups, BMI assessments and consultations with general physicians. Delivery associates can access these services at Amazon’s last-mile delivery stations by showing a government-issued identity proof. Amazon said the camps, which started in March this year, have already been conducted across delivery stations in six cities and will continue in metro and Tier II cities.

Alongside healthcare initiatives, Amazon said it will expand its Ashray network to 250 centres by the end of 2026, building on its current network of 100 centres across 16 cities. The company plans to launch 50 new centres by the end of May. Ashray centres are dedicated rest facilities open to all delivery drivers, including those outside Amazon’s network, and provide air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, mobile charging points, washrooms, first-aid kits and resting spaces. Amazon said the existing centres recorded more than one million visits from delivery drivers across the industry in 2025.

The company has also introduced mobile Ashray units in the form of air-conditioned vans stationed along busy delivery routes to provide access to rest and hydration support. These units offer facilities including air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, Wi-Fi and charging points.

Salim R Memon said the company continues to prioritise the health, safety and wellbeing of associates across its operations network and that the expansion of insurance coverage, health camps and Ashray centres reflects Amazon’s commitment to strengthening support for delivery associates.

Amazon said these initiatives form part of its recently announced investment of more than ₹28 billion to strengthen associate safety, health and financial wellbeing while continuing to expand its operations network in India. The company said it also continues to support delivery associates through emergency ambulance services, road safety training, scholarship programmes for children of associates, and workplace wellbeing and upskilling initiatives.
