Neeraj Bhansal, CEO, DHL SmarTrucking, India, commented, “This is an innovative start-up that utilises a tech-enabled fleet and data-driven insights to bring efficiency into logistics sector. The hardware installation in trucks enables to track the temperature sensors, vehicle data, GPS monitoring and ‘Door Open’ sensor. The technical modules include driver app, route optimisation programs and end-to-end technological integration using application programming interface (APIs).”

The logistics spend in India is high, at least 4-5% higher than Europe and a bulk of it comes from hidden costs, which is delay or damages while carrying inventory. Malcolm Monterio, CEO India, DHL eCommerce revealed how SmarTrucking will help to bring down the logistics cost to GDP below 10 percent in India. He acknowledged the Indian government for Bharatmala project, 100 percent FDI, GDP implementation and establishing logistics as a department under ministry of commerce.

Jurgen Gerdes, member of the board of management, DHL Group said that with this new technology we will have a global reach and will cover important Indian markets. “SmarTrucking will have a better customer experience and more efficient process. In technology exploration, it will be able to reduce 20 million tonnes of CO2, 100 percent ergonomic and 60-80 percent less maintenance repair costs.”

DHL SmarTrucking expects to transfer one lakh tonnes of cargo every day. The fleet will cover a distance of approximately 40 lakh kilometers daily creating an employment for over 20,000 drivers.
