RSA Global bets big on India's logistics infrastructure
RSA Global has signed an MoU with the Government of Maharashtra to develop India's largest empty container yard near JNPA at Uran, Raigad, with an investment of ₹25,800 million.
RSA Global, the Dubai-based integrated logistics company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to develop what is set to become India's largest empty container yard in the JNPA region at Uran in Raigad district. The project, to be executed through RSA Logistics and Transportation, involves a proposed investment of ₹25,800 million and is expected to create around 750 direct and indirect jobs.
Spread across 62 acres, the fully paved, technology-enabled facility is designed to optimise empty container management by reducing congestion, lowering logistics costs, and improving operational efficiency at one of India's busiest maritime trade hubs.
The investment reinforces RSA Global's long-term commitment to the Indian market while further strengthening Maharashtra's role as a key logistics and trade gateway. The project aligns with the state's vision of attracting global infrastructure investments, generating skilled jobs, and enhancing export competitiveness through advanced and sustainable logistics infrastructure.
To be developed within the JNPA estate at Uran under a long-term lease, the facility is aligned with the Port Authority's goals of reducing congestion, optimising land use, and enhancing cargo throughput. By consolidating empty container storage, maintenance, and repositioning into a centralised, technology-driven hub near the port, the project aims to streamline container evacuation, ease pressure on terminals and surrounding road networks, and improve the efficiency of vessel operations.
For RSA Global's customers, the new facility is designed to replace fragmented and manual container handling with a fully integrated, technology-driven operation.
The yard will deliver faster turnaround times through FIFO-based automation, Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems (ASRS), EOT cranes, and real-time visibility enabled by a Yard Management System and OCR-equipped gates.
Customers are also expected to benefit from lower operating costs through reduced detention charges, fewer damage and insurance claims, and improved vessel cut-off performance.
With a handling capacity of more than 50,000 TEUs per month, the facility is equipped to manage reefer containers, ISO tanks, dry containers, collapsible units, and out-of-gauge cargo, offering the flexibility needed for diverse shipping requirements.
Beyond storage, the yard provides a full suite of services, including container maintenance and repair, pre-trip inspections, SOLAS-compliant weighment, surveys, fabrication, and container freight station (CFS) transfers.
The development also aims to improve the driver experience with faster gate-in and gate-out processes, an on-site weighbridge, dedicated parking areas, and better amenities, enabling transport operators to complete more trips each day.
The facility has been designed for round-the-clock operations, integrating sustainability with efficiency. Features such as solar power, dedicated power feeders, sewage and effluent water recycling systems (STP and ETP), and the plantation of more than 2,500 trees are expected to reduce emissions and vehicle idling while enhancing productivity across the logistics ecosystem.
Ajay I. Shah, Chairman & Co-Founder, RSA Global, "India's trade ambitions are written in its ports, and empty container handling has long been the unglamorous bottleneck holding them back. We're investing to fix exactly that, bringing automation, transparency, and world-class infrastructure to the JNPA ecosystem, in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra. This is RSA Global doing what we do best: solving the hard problems in the supply chain."
