GatiShakti Cargo Terminal (GCT) reported freight revenue of ₹12,608 crore for the financial year 2024-25. This represents a 16% increase compared to the previous year's revenue of ₹7,712.36 crore.
Revenue generated from the terminals saw a fourfold increase, rising from ₹2,901 crore in the financial year 2022-23 to ₹12,608 crore in 2024-25, as disclosed by Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
GCT policy has been instrumental in boosting cargo handling capacity, facilitating the development of terminals on both railway and non-railway land.
Since the policy's implementation, 118 new GCTs have been commissioned, adding an estimated traffic capacity of 192 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). This initiative has successfully mobilised private investment, totaling approximately ₹8,600 crore since the GCT policy began.
Focusing on Maharashtra, nine new GCTs, including those in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), have been commissioned with a total investment of ₹548.69 crore.
Furthermore, the state, including the MMR, has sanctioned 91 works for the development of goods and parcel terminals, involving an investment of ₹932.34 crore. Promoting cargo transport by railways also contributes positively to the environment through reduced emissions.
