GTI launches first double-stack rail service via DFC
The inaugural train to Dadri handled 270 TEUs in 7 hours, giving customers direct access to NCR markets through a faster and efficient inland logistics route.
Gateway Terminals India (GTI), also known as APM Terminals Mumbai, has handled its first double-stack rail operation, opening a new logistics corridor to India's National Capital Region (NCR) through the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). The move is aimed at improving access to inland markets with faster, more efficient and sustainable cargo movement.
The inaugural double-stack service to Dadri handled 270 TEUs, including the discharge of 90 TEUs and the loading of 180 TEUs, in seven hours. According to GTI, the operation sets a new benchmark for rail productivity at the terminal and highlights its ability to handle larger cargo volumes more efficiently.
The company said the double-stack rail service will help move more cargo on each train, improving supply chain efficiency, reducing transit time and supporting more sustainable transport to inland markets.
"The successful handling of our first double-stack rake is more than an operational milestone—it is a significant business enabler that strengthens connectivity between the port and key inland markets," said Kumar Divya, Chief Commercial Officer, Gateway Terminals India.
He said the service will allow customers to benefit from faster transit, improved supply chain reliability and more cost-effective logistics solutions. He added that the development also opens a new logistics channel for trade while reflecting GTI's focus on operational excellence, safety and innovation.
The operation also marks GTI's entry into the Dedicated Freight Corridor ecosystem, providing direct access to key manufacturing and consumption markets in the NCR. The company said shipping lines can now route NCR-bound cargo through GTI and connect it with vessels calling at Nhava Sheva, improving market access and supply chain flexibility.
GTI said it will continue expanding its multimodal capabilities to strengthen links between global shipping services and inland markets, offering customers greater choice, improved efficiency and more resilient supply chains.
