Dighi Port to handle 200,000 Cars a year under APSEZ-Motherson pact
The new roll-on roll-off terminal will support finished vehicle logistics for major automotive manufacturers.;
Motherson, through its joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Limited (SAMRX), has signed an agreement with Dighi Port Limited (DPL) to set up a dedicated auto export facility at the Maharashtra port. Dighi Port is a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ).
The partnership positions Dighi Port as a new automobile export terminal for manufacturers in the Mumbai-to-Pune belt. APSEZ said the development aligns with the Make in India programme by supporting vehicle exports and imports through an expanded port network.
Ashwani Gupta, CEO and whole-time director of Adani Ports and SEZ, said, "Our partnership with Motherson at Dighi Port marks a significant step toward redefining automotive logistics in India. By combining APSEZ’s integrated infrastructure capabilities with Motherson’s expertise, we are creating a seamless, resilient network for vehicle movement across the country. This RoRo terminal will not only accelerate trade and enhance supply chain efficiency but also deliver long-term value to our customers and the communities we serve."
Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, vice chairman of Motherson Group, said, "This partnership with APSEZ is a significant step forward in our mission to provide integrated, world-class logistics solutions to the automotive industry. By developing this RoRo terminal at Dighi Port, we are enhancing our service portfolio and also creating a strategic asset that will boost efficiency and reduce logistics costs for our OEM partners. This collaboration will strengthen India’s automotive supply chain and deliver tangible value to our customers."
The new roll-on roll-off terminal will support finished vehicle logistics for major automotive manufacturers. SAMRX will invest in the facility to integrate services and provide full cargo visibility across operations. The project includes single-window operations for yard management, inspection, charging, storage and vessel loading.
The facility will use AI for yard optimisation and real-time tracking. It will offer a direct evacuation route for manufacturers in Maharashtra via NH-66 and feature a RoRo-ready jetty with sheltered waters to ensure all-weather operations. It will also act as an electric vehicle-ready logistics hub and provide dashboards for manufacturers to manage load planning and track volumes.
Dighi Port is located on the west coast and serves industrial regions across Maharashtra. The port has warehouses, tank farms and stockyards and can handle oil, chemical, container and bulk cargo. The shift into vehicle handling marks a new phase in APSEZ’s plan to build integrated logistics hubs.
APSEZ said its broader strategy is to reinforce its nationwide network while supporting trade flows for domestic and international partners.
