CFSAI flags delays in EXIM container movement at JNPA–CFS network

The Container Freight Stations Association of India (CFSAI) has issued a trade advisory informing stakeholders that the movement of EXIM containers between port terminals and container freight stations (CFSs) within the JNPA ecosystem continues to face operational delays due to factors beyond the control of CFS operators.

According to the association, the delays are mainly caused by traffic congestion and frequent stoppages at Chandani Chowk, congestion at terminal gates, particularly at NSICT, NSIGT and GTI, deteriorated road conditions, potholes, waterlogging and continuing monsoon conditions in the port ecosystem. Ongoing road repair and infrastructure works, especially near DRT CFS and other locations, along with increased turnaround time for trailer trucks, have also affected the timely movement of import and export containers.

CFSAI said these factors have significantly affected the evacuation and delivery of containers, resulting in longer transit times and operational disruptions across the logistics chain.

Despite these challenges, the association said its member CFSs are continuing to make every effort to maintain operational continuity, optimise available resources and minimise delays.

CFSAI requested stakeholders to note that delays caused by traffic congestion, terminal-side constraints, adverse weather and road infrastructure conditions are beyond the control of member CFSs. It added that member CFSs should not be held responsible for consequential delays or operational impacts arising from these external factors.

The association has requested the concerned authorities to facilitate smoother traffic movement at Chandani Chowk, minimise avoidable traffic stoppages and expedite road repairs and maintenance in CFS areas to ensure efficient movement of EXIM cargo.
