PM Modi to unveil major maritime and infra projects in Gujarat
The projects are a push for port infrastructure, shipbuilding, and coastal development across the country, aligning with the Maritime India Vision 2030.;
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Bhavnagar, Gujarat, on September 20, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of transformative projects worth Rs 1.5 trillion (US $17,02,40,25,000.00).
The event, held as part of the Transforming Maritime Sector Conclave, is a major step towards India's long-term vision of becoming a global maritime leader by 2047.
The Prime Minister's visit will include a public rally and a roadshow, highlighting a multi-faceted approach to national development.
The projects are a push for port infrastructure, shipbuilding, and coastal development across the country, aligning with the Maritime India Vision 2030.
Key initiatives include major upgrades at several ports. At Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Port in Kolkata, a new container terminal will be inaugurated. Paradip Port will see the launch of a new container berth and cargo handling facilities.
Further, new firefighting facilities and modern road connectivity will be inaugurated at Kamarajar Port. A strong sea-wall and revetment works will be a new project at Chennai Port for coastal protection.
At Deendayal Port in Kandla, a Multi-Purpose Cargo Berth off Tuna Tekra will be launched, along with a Green Bio-Methanol Plant and an Oil Jetty. The Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Indira Dock will also be inaugurated, aimed at boosting India's cruise tourism.
The Prime Minister will also focus on shipbuilding and logistics. New ship repair facilities will be launched at Patna and Varanasi, with the latter also getting a Freight Village.
Strategic Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) will be signed, including one between Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL) and HD KSOE for shipbuilding, and another between Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) and major oil companies (IOCL, BPCL, HPCL) for vessel demand aggregation.
MoUs will also be signed with several states, including Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu, to develop the shipbuilding ecosystem.
In the energy and connectivity sectors, a 280 MWac/400 MWdc solar project and a 600 MW Green Shoe Initiative will be launched, demonstrating a commitment to renewable energy.
A PM-KUSUM 475 MW capacity component C-feeder will be launched for farmers in Gujarat, and four-lane 70 km National Highways projects will be inaugurated to enhance regional connectivity.
Other projects include the inauguration of an HPLNG Regasification Terminal at Charra Port and an Acrylics & Oxo Alcohol Project at the Gujarat IOCL Refinery.
Finally, the Prime Minister will launch social and urban development projects. These include new academic blocks, a teaching hospital, and an MCH Block at Sir T. Hospital, as well as an OPD, MCH, and Super Speciality Hospital at GGG Hospital in Jamnagar.
The 100% solarization of Dhordo village will also be officially recognized, and a 45 MW Government Waste Land Solar PV Project will be launched in Badeli.
