Myanmar President visits JNPA to study port operations and growth
The delegation reviewed infrastructure, logistics and expansion plans, including the Vadhvan Port project, while exploring cooperation and knowledge exchange.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), India's largest container port, hosted His Excellency Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, on June 2, 2026, as part of a visit aimed at understanding the port's infrastructure, operations and future development plans.
The President was accompanied by an official delegation comprising 67 officials. The delegation was welcomed by Gaurav Dayal, IAS, Chairperson of JNPA, along with the port authority's heads of departments.
During the visit, JNPA presented an overview of its port infrastructure, operational capabilities, capacity expansion initiatives, strategic development projects, sustainability measures and future growth plans. The presentation also highlighted the Vadhvan Port Project, which is being developed as one of India's largest deep-draft ports and is expected to support maritime trade growth in the region.
The President noted that JNPA's position as India's leading port reflects its operational efficiency and service capabilities. He expressed Myanmar's interest in advancing port development initiatives and said the delegation was keen to learn from JNPA's experience, gain a better understanding of the sector and explore opportunities for knowledge exchange and cooperation.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaurav Dayal said, "It was a privilege to welcome His Excellency Min Aung Hlaing, President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and the esteemed delegation to JNPA. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to showcase India's maritime capabilities, JNPA's operational excellence, and our future-oriented development initiatives, including the Vadhvan Port Project. We look forward to strengthening maritime and trade cooperation between India and Myanmar and exploring avenues for enhanced regional connectivity and economic collaboration."
The delegation also visited the port area to gain first-hand insight into cargo handling operations, port functioning and the integrated logistics ecosystem. The visit offered an opportunity to showcase JNPA's infrastructure and its role in facilitating international trade.
According to JNPA, the visit highlights the growing importance of maritime cooperation and regional partnerships in supporting trade, connectivity and sustainable economic development across the Indo-Pacific region.
