Logistics service provider Paradeep Parivahan (PPL) announced on 21January that it has signed a 8 year agreement with UltraTech Cement to deploy electric vehicles (EVs) for bulk logistics. The initiative is being billed as India’s largest trans-state electric truck fleet for heavy-duty transportation.

Under the agreement, PPL will deploy a fleet of electric trucks to transport materials between UltraTech’s facilities in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. This move replaces conventional diesel-powered heavy trucks on one of the company's busiest logistics corridors.

The environmental impact of the switch is projected to be substantial. By transitioning to electric mobility, the project aims to cut carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by approximately 15,000 to 20,000 tonnes annually.

To ensure the viability of long-haul electric freight, the project involves a three-way collaboration between Paradeep Parivahan, UltraTech Cement, and Energy In Motion (EIM).

EIM has been roped in to provide the critical ecosystem required for heavy-duty EVs, including charging infrastructure, battery-swapping technology, and operational support. This ensures the fleet remains scalable and reliable, a common challenge in the adoption of electric freight for heavy industries.

Khalid Khan, Chairman & Managing Director of Paradeep Parivahan said, “Our first large-scale EV-based logistics engagement reflects a shared commitment to sustainability, operational efficiency, and green mobility solutions”.

“As logistics partners to some of India’s leading industrial groups, we will continue to invest in electric mobility to support our clients’ ESG objectives.”

Financially, the agreement is a boost for PPL, contributing positively to its existing order book of over ₹300 crore. The initiative also aligns with the Government of India’s PM EDRIVE scheme, which incentivizes the adoption of electric vehicles to reduce the nation's logistics costs and carbon footprint.
