Allcargo Terminals, a subsidiary of the Allcargo Group, announced on 6 January, an expansion of its container freight station (CFS) near Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNP). The facility’s annual capacity is set to jump from 190,000 TEUs to 360,000 TEUs, a move to strengthen India’s export-import (EXIM) infrastructure.
According to the press release, the expansion is part of a broader three-year roadmap focused on scaling operations, digitising workflows, and enhancing infrastructure across the company’s national network.
The upgraded yard is now powered by RTG-enabled (Rubber-Tyred Gantry), tag-less operations. This technological shift is designed to manage the surging cargo volumes at JNP, which is currently striving to become the first Indian port to handle 10 million TEUs by 2027.
"By enhancing our yard space and warehousing infrastructure, we are strengthening our ability to handle increased cargo flows with precision and efficiency," said Sunny Williams, Regional Head of West at Allcargo Terminals.
The facility includes a 25% increase in warehousing to effectively meet rising demand, the creation of specialised cargo zones dedicated to handling over-dimensional cargo (ODC) and other special shipments, and a step toward digital integration with the implementation of the MyCFS app and smart yard management systems, which will facilitate paperless workflows and provide real-time visibility.
Venugopal Shetty, Facility Head at CFS JNPT said, "With increased yard and warehouse capacity... we are better positioned to handle higher volumes with improved planning, visibility, and execution".
The proximity of the CFS to JNP ensures faster turnaround times for shippers. Beyond this primary facility, Allcargo Terminals maintains a strong presence in the region through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Speedy Multimodes, which operates a second facility near the port.
With this latest upgrade, Allcargo Terminals continues to solidify its footprint, currently operating seven CFS and Inland Container Depot (ICD) facilities across India’s major ports.
