Mundra Airport begins operations, boosting trade & logistics in Kutch
Adani Mundra Airport has launched scheduled flights with Star Air, connecting Kutch to eight cities.

Adani Mundra Airport launches scheduled flight services in India, the inaugural flight received a traditional water cannon salute.
Adani Mundra Airport on Tuesday launched its first scheduled commercial flight services in partnership with Star Air, connecting Mundra in Gujarat’s Kutch region with Mumbai and Goa while introducing air links to eight cities overall. The initiative aims to accelerate trade, commerce, logistics and tourism by providing critical last-mile connectivity to India’s largest private port and one of the country’s most important industrial zones. Through integrated port-airport infrastructure and faster movement of people and cargo, Adani Group plans to transform Mundra into a fully integrated, multi-modal logistics and business hub.
The inaugural operations mark a major expansion of connectivity for the Kutch region, with Star Air commencing services from Mundra to Mumbai, Goa, Hindon, Surat, Belagavi, Bengaluru, Kolhapur and Nanded. According to the company, the new routes are expected to establish an express corridor that reduces travel time and supports greater integration of trade flows, business activity and tourism across western and southern India.
The airport has been designed to support both passenger and cargo operations and features a 1,900-metre runway capable of handling a broad range of aircraft categories. Supporting infrastructure includes a modern passenger terminal with parking facilities, multiple check-in counters, lounges, a food court, wheelchair accessibility and dedicated passenger drop-off zones.
The development is positioned as a strategic extension of Mundra’s existing logistics ecosystem, centred around India’s largest private commercial port and one of the country’s largest notified and operational multi-product Special Economic Zones. By adding air connectivity, the airport provides a critical last-mile transport link that complements cargo movement through the port and strengthens integration with national and international supply chains.
The project also reflects Adani Group’s broader infrastructure strategy of creating operational synergies across transport assets, combining port, airport and logistics capabilities into a unified network. The launch adds Mundra Airport to the group’s wider aviation portfolio, which includes operations across airports in Navi Mumbai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Mangaluru and Guwahati.
Mundra’s Transformation into a Logistics and Trade Hub
Mundra’s rise has been one of India’s most significant infrastructure transformations.
Once a relatively small fishing settlement on the western coast of Gujarat, Mundra historically served as a maritime trading point connecting Kutch to destinations across the Arabian Sea including Muscat and Zanzibar. Its modern transformation began in 1998 following private investment-led port development initiatives in Gujarat. Initial infrastructure focused on cargo handling, berth creation and connectivity, gradually evolving into a larger industrial and logistics ecosystem.
Over time, Mundra developed into an integrated economic cluster combining port operations, industrial development, warehousing, manufacturing and energy infrastructure.Today, Mundra handles around 11% of India’s maritime cargo and nearly one-third of the country’s container traffic, making it one of South Asia’s most strategically important trade gateways.
Supported by rail infrastructure, including connectivity to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor, and now expanded through scheduled air services, Mundra is positioning itself as a logistics and business destination where manufacturing, storage, processing and distribution operate within a single integrated geography.
The launch of scheduled commercial flights is expected to further strengthen regional connectivity and create new opportunities for investment, tourism and industrial growth across Kutch and beyond.
