DP World Cochin’s International Container Transshipment Terminal (ICTT) recorded its highest monthly throughput for CY2026 in May, handling 77,637 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The achievement reinforces Cochin’s position as a key regional and global trade gateway and reflects the terminal’s growing role in facilitating trade flows while efficiently managing rising cargo volumes.

The terminal reported a 4% increase in year-to-date volumes through May 2026 compared with the same period last year, despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.

Origin-destination cargo volumes remained broadly stable during the period. Growth was driven by higher transshipment volumes, including cargo diverted from other ports, which helped the terminal achieve both its record monthly throughput and a record transshipment volume of 28,000 TEUs in May.

“The record throughput achieved in May reflects the dedication of our teams and the confidence our customers place in DP World Cochin. We continue to deliver higher volumes while maintaining world-class productivity standards, further strengthening our position as a preferred gateway for trade,” said Dipin Kayyath, Chief Executive Officer – Ports & Terminals, DP World Cochin.

He added that the performance demonstrates the terminal’s ability to operate successfully in dynamic market conditions, adapt to changing customer requirements and consistently deliver value through reliable and efficient operations.

During May, DP World Cochin handled an additional 17 vessel calls, managing the increased cargo volumes while maintaining smooth operations. The company said this demonstrated the terminal’s capability to meet higher demand efficiently.

To support growing trade volumes, DP World Cochin has continued to invest in its infrastructure and operational capabilities. The terminal increased its power infrastructure capacity from 3 MVA to 5 MVA, helpifng ensure uninterrupted operations during periods of peak demand.

The terminal has also completed the electrification of its yard equipment, reducing emissions from cargo handling activities while supporting customers’ sustainability goals and improving operational efficiency.

Located along major international shipping routes, DP World Cochin provides direct connectivity to key global markets and serves as a coastal gateway linking ports across India, from Gujarat to Kolkata. The terminal also supports cargo movement between India’s east and west coasts.

DP World has also developed Kerala’s first Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) at Cochin, the only such facility in India co-located within a major port. The FTWZ supports EXIM trade through cargo consolidation, storage and distribution services while contributing to regional economic growth.
