Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major National Highway projects worth Rs 11,000 crore in Rohini, Delhi. The projects include the Delhi section of the Dwarka Motorway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II), aimed at improving connectivity, reducing congestion and cutting travel time in Delhi and the NCR.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister said, “Today’s India is defined by its aspirations, dreams, and resolutions—elements that the entire world is now experiencing.” He added that developing Delhi as a model of growth was important since the city reflects the progress of a developing and confident India.

The Prime Minister noted that the Dwarka Motorway and UER-II would ease travel for people in Delhi, Gurugram and NCR and provide benefits for traders, entrepreneurs and farmers. He emphasised that the government has been working to enhance connectivity across Delhi-NCR over the last decade through motorways, metro expansion and the Namo Bharat rapid rail.

Highlighting that millions of tonnes of waste material from garbage mounds had been reused in constructing the UER-II, Modi said the project would not only reduce landfill but also improve infrastructure. He also mentioned ongoing efforts to clean the Yamuna and expand Delhi’s electric bus fleet under the “Green Delhi–Clean Delhi” initiative.

The Prime Minister announced that next-generation GST reforms are planned for rollout by Diwali, which he said would provide “a double bonus” for citizens. He urged people to support local products, stating, “If you are Indian, buy what is made in India.”

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other leaders attended the event.

The Delhi section of the Dwarka Motorway, developed at a cost of around Rs 5,360 crore, spans 10.1 km and connects the Shiv Murti intersection to the Delhi-Haryana border. The 19 km Haryana section was inaugurated in March 2024. The newly opened 27 km UER-II stretch, built at a cost of Rs 5,580 crore, connects Alipur to Dichaon Kalan and adds links to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. It is expected to ease traffic on Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads and facilitate faster goods movement in NCR.
