DP World launches Swasthya Kendra to support India’s truckers
First Gujarat hub offers healthcare, rest spaces and welfare access, with plans to scale nationwide along key freight routes
DP World has launched its flagship Swasthya Kendra in Gujarat, marking the first step in a nationwide mission to build a network of accessible wellbeing hubs for India’s trucking community, with an initial ambition to positively impact one million truckers and their families.
The programme reflects DP World’s long-term vision to progressively serve trucking communities across the country by bringing essential services closer to where truckers live and work. India’s trucking sector enables over 70 per cent of the country’s freight movement, with more than 6.5 million registered trucks on the roads. However, access to quality healthcare, financial security and welfare support remains a challenge for many in the sector.
The first Swasthya Kendra, located near the Mundra International Container Terminal in Gujarat, spans 7,000 square feet and has been developed as an integrated wellbeing hub. It will offer healthcare services, preventive screenings, rest and recovery spaces, sanitation facilities, and support in accessing welfare and social security schemes.
The initiative has been developed in partnership with Plan International India, combining DP World’s logistics and infrastructure expertise with community engagement capabilities. Services will also extend to truckers’ families, reflecting a broader focus on holistic wellbeing and community support.
DP World plans to expand the Swasthya Kendra network across India as part of its long-term strategy to improve quality of life for truckers, strengthen road safety, and support the country’s logistics ecosystem. Alongside this, the company will continue its Mission for Vision programme, which focuses on preventive eye care along major transport routes.
Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director, Subcontinent, Central Asia, Levant and Egypt, DP World, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the people who keep trade moving. He noted that the launch of the first Swasthya Kendra marks the beginning of a long-term effort to build a support network for trucking communities across India.
Naveen Gupta, Secretary General, All India Motor Transport Congress, said the initiative recognises the contribution of truck drivers and aims to improve their wellbeing by providing access to essential amenities, healthcare support and information.
Mohammed Asif, Executive Director at Plan International India, said the project transforms a rest stop at Mundra into a hub for healthcare, wellbeing and essential services, with a focus on truckers, their families and communities.
As part of its broader efforts, DP World has also launched a multilingual, mobile-first application available on the Google Play store. The app has already seen close to 1,000 truckers using it within a month of launch. It helps users locate health facilities, ATMs, petrol pumps and mobile health units, while also offering a wellness tracker, safe driving modules, and access to benefits, rewards and social security support.
