Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has commenced operations of its Double Stack Container Train service from Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) on the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), marking a significant step towards strengthening rail-based freight logistics in India.

The company has successfully operated double-stack container trains from JNPA to its Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) at Dadri in the Delhi-NCR region, Khatuwas in Rajasthan, and Varnama in Gujarat, demonstrating the operational readiness and efficiency of the service.

With the launch, customers can now avail direct double-stack container train services between JNPA and the three inland logistics hubs. The network also offers extended connectivity to major inland destinations, including Tughlakabad and Ludhiana via Khatuwas, Moradabad via Dadri, and Indore (Tihi) via Varnama, along with several other route combinations.

According to CONCOR, the service is expected to accelerate the movement of import and export containers by enabling faster evacuation from the port, reducing cargo dwell time, improving rake turnaround, and increasing rail's share in freight transportation.

The company added that the new service will help minimise port detention, provide more predictable transit times, reduce dependence on road transport, and ease congestion at the country's busiest container gateway.

The launch is expected to support more efficient and reliable supply chains while reinforcing the role of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor in transforming India's freight transportation network.
