Toyota Kirloskar Motor signs renewal agreement with Kamarajar Port

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has renewed its Wharfage Rate Agreement with Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL), marking the continuation of a strategic partnership that has underpinned the automaker’s export logistics for over a decade. The Ennore-based port has served as TKM’s primary export gateway since 2012, enabling the company to streamline vehicle shipments to multiple continents.

Since its first shipment of 247 units of the Toyota Etios series to South Africa in April 2012, TKM has exported over 1.8 lakh Completely Built Units (CBUs) through KPL. Today, its Urban Cruiser Hyryder leads outbound volumes to 22 markets, including South Africa, UAE, France, Egypt, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

The renewed agreement was signed in the presence of senior leadership from both organisations, alongside key stakeholders from the automotive and shipping industries. The collaboration is a cornerstone of Toyota’s Make-in-India strategy and a critical link in its global supply chain, supporting operational efficiency, sustainability, and competitive lead times.

“Renewing the decade-long agreement with Kamarajar Port enables us to continue serving global markets from Indian soil with products of global quality,” said Yoshinori Noritake, EVP & Chief Technical Officer Director, TKM. “KPL has been integral to our outbound logistics efficiency and sustainability goals.”

Shri Sunil Paliwal, IAS, Chairman of KPL & Chennai Port Authority, called Toyota “one of our earliest and most consistent automotive partners,” noting that the growing export volumes reflect both parties’ commitment to advancing India’s role in global automotive trade.

As global automotive demand evolves, the extended partnership ensures TKM can leverage KPL’s automotive handling expertise, robust infrastructure, and future-ready port solutions to expand its international footprint from India.
