Young Parliamentarians from Africa visit JNPT to learn about its operations
Young parliamentarians from various parts of Africa recently visited Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to learn about its operations, as part of a familiarization programme.

August 8, 2017: Young parliamentarians from various parts of Africa recently visited Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) to learn about its operations, as part of a familiarization programme. The visit was a part of India’s commitment under the Third India –Africa Forum held in October 2015 in New Delhi, under Development Cooperation Projects of Government of India through the External Publicity & Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs.
Captain Amit Kapoor, deputy conservator, JNPT and Dr C Unnikrishnan Nair, chief manager traffic (CMT) along with senior officials of JNPT hosted the delegation from Africa and took them on a guided tour of the port. Nair presented the overall scenario of Indian Port sector and the Sagarmala initiative of the Ministry of Shipping. He highlighted the development of new ports, maritime and manufacturing clusters. He also explained the Ministry of Shipping’s vision on Sagarmala which factors in next 20 years cargo projection, cargo profiling, capacity addition to cater to new cargo demand. He further briefed the delegation on the future projects like Dry Port, Satellite Port, Green Port initiatives and various activities under the Ease of Doing Business programme.
The delegation also visited JNPT-Antwerp Port Training Centre where they were given an insight on the various training programmes conducted for the Maritime sector.
