November 17, 2017: Virgin Hyperloop One has signed two more memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Indian government agencies to conduct preliminary studies into hyperloop route construction feasibility.
Karnataka and Maharashtra are the two states where Virgin Hyperloop One will be conducting the feasibility studies. The US based company is eyeing on a Mumbai-Pune route in Maharashtra. It also aims to identify potential routes to improve mobility in the Benguluru metropolitan area and connect high growth cities such as Tumakuru, Hubli-Dharwad and Hosur within the state.
The hyperloop mode uses technology in which a vehicle in a special tunnel floats above the track, using magnetic levitation, at a top speed of over 1,000 km per hour.
The company, which recently got strong backing from Richard Branson, is reportedly looking to build an India-wide national hyperloop network.
Besides Karnataka and Maharashtra, the company will also study the hyperloop possibility in Andhra Pradesh.
Apart from India, Virgin Hyperloop One is working on projects in the UAE, the US, Canada, Finland, and the Netherlands.
