June 17, 2016: Snapdeal is enhancing its delivery capacities through a new model to help its logistics partners integrate with the e-commerce portal in a quick and efficient manner. It aims to reduce delivery timelines and expand its last-mile connectivity. The company is piloting a plug-and-play model in Delhi-NCR and plans to scale it nationally in the near future. The technology helps Snapdeal allocate requisite volumes to delivery partners by analysing the rise and fall in demand of services.
“To create a consistent customer experience, we felt the need to improve capabilities of our last-mile delivery partners. Plug-and-play technology integration has been launched in this regard,” said Jayant Sood, chief customer experience officer, Snapdeal. He added that the company realised that regional logistics players catering to remote geographic areas are either low on technology or lack the financial muscle to adequately invest in technology. According to a report by PwC an RedSeer, it takes six days for Snapdeal to complete deliveries in Tier II cities. Its rivals Amazon and Flipkart deliver in 6.88 and 8.17 days, respectively, in the same regions, according to the report.
Further, Snapdeal’s average delivery time in Tier III cities is 6.11 days against Flipkart’s 8.97 days and Amazon’s 7.80 days, the report states. Plug-and-play service uses real-time tracking, IoT technologies and predictive analytics that allows partners to optimise their businesses and gain operational efficiencies. “Smarter planning and forecasting will allow reduction in delivery timelines. At the same time, it will help reduce losses/improve accurate deliveries, thereby helping us improve our on-time delivery promise,” Sood said.
