Sunil Bhaskaran appointed as AirAsia India’s MD

Oct 11, 2018: AirAsia India, an airline jointly owned by Tata Group and AirAsia Berhad of Malaysia, has appointed Sunil Bhaskaran, a Tata Steel veteran as the new chief executive and managing director. He takes charge from November 15, 2018.

Oct 11, 2018: AirAsia India, an airline jointly owned by Tata Group and AirAsia Berhad of Malaysia, has appointed Sunil Bhaskaran, a Tata Steel veteran as the new chief executive and managing director. He takes charge from November 15, 2018.

“With India’s aviation sector growing at a rapid pace, we are confident his extensive experience, ability to drive performance and work seamlessly with all stakeholders will be a great asset for AirAsia India,” S Ramadorai, chairman at AirAsia India, said in a statement.

Currently, the vice president corporate services at Tata Steel, Bhaskaran is based in Jamshedpur. AirAsia India has been without a chief executive since June when Amar Abrol quit due to personal reasons.

Bhaskaran completed his BTech from IIT Delhi in 1985, followed by a post-graduation in management from IIM, Kolkata in 1987. He joined Tata Steel in 1987 and subsequently completed his GMP from Cedep at INSEAD, France in 2000.
