SKIL Ports to develop a terminal at Karanja

Ashok SKIL Ports and Logistics plans to invest Rs 1,000 crore to build a multipurpose terminal at Karanja near Mumbai over the next two years. The proposed terminal would be developed on a 200-acre land parcel at Karanja, off the financial capital’s eastern coast, and would have a sea frontage of 1,000 meters. Located in neighbouring Raigad district, the proposed multipurpose terminal and port would be operational in two years. It would be close to the country’s largest container port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and also across the channel from the Mumbai Port. Details like total capacity and cargo mix at the facility were not available. A tripartite agreement was signed between the Maharashtra Maritime Board, the Konkan Railway and the Sajjan Jindal-promoted JSW Jaigad Port, for a 33.7-km rail link to the port located in Ratnagiri district.
