DGMA signs MoU to advance India’s maritime decarbonisation
The agreement with NCoEGPS, TERI and Smart Freight Centre will support technical cooperation, pilot projects, capacity building and international partnerships.
The Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA) has signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Centre of Excellence in Green Ports & Shipping (NCoEGPS), TERI and the Smart Freight Centre (SFC) to advance India’s maritime decarbonisation agenda and strengthen international collaboration.
The MoU was signed by Shyam Jagannathan, IAS, Director General of Maritime Administration, Vibha Dhawan, Director General, TERI and Chairperson, NCoEGPS, and Prashant S. Widge, Executive Director – India & Maritime, Smart Freight Centre.
The collaboration provides a strategic framework to support the implementation of the National Maritime Decarbonisation Policy Framework (NMDP). It will focus on technical cooperation, pilot initiatives, capacity building, international partnerships and knowledge sharing.
The partnership will also support the development of green shipping, green ports, green fuels, responsible ship recycling, harmonised emissions accounting and the India Maritime Decarbonisation Knowledge Hub.
The signing ceremony was attended by Killi Mohana Rao, Chief Surveyor (I/c), DGMA, S. I. Abul Kalam Azad, Nautical Adviser (I/c), DGMA, Christoph Wolff, Chief Executive Officer, Smart Freight Centre, Mr Souvik Bhattacharjya, Director, TERI, along with senior officials and representatives from DGMA, NCoEGPS, TERI and the Smart Freight Centre.
The partnership brings together national leadership and global expertise to support the development of a sustainable, resilient and future-ready maritime ecosystem while strengthening India’s position in maritime decarbonisation.
