UltraTech deploys 45 electric heavy-duty trucks for clinker transport
UltraTech Cement has deployed 45 electric heavy-duty trucks in northern India to transport clinker, cutting over 8,900 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

In a massive push for sustainable commercial transportation in northern India, UltraTech Cement Limited has officially commenced the deployment of 45 electric heavy-duty trucks. This landmark initiative, executed in partnership with Energy In Motion (EIM), represents one of the largest electric heavy-duty trucking deployments in the region's cement sector. As the world’s largest cement company by sales volume and capacity outside of China, UltraTech’s latest move marks a critical step forward in establishing the operational and economic viability of long-haul electric freight across the country.
The newly deployed fleet consists of high-capacity, 55-tonne electric trucks dedicated to a vital logistical corridor. These vehicles will transport clinker from UltraTech’s integrated manufacturing unit, the Kotputli Cement Works in Rajasthan, to its key grinding facilities in the Delhi-NCR region, namely the Dadri Cement Works and Sikandarabad Cement Works. This represents a substantial 250-kilometre lead distance, requiring the electric fleet to seamlessly traverse the three major states of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
Beyond the technological milestone, the environmental implications of this deployment are profound. The fleet is projected to reduce more than 8,900 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually, effectively displacing the equivalent of about 2.9 million litres of diesel per fiscal year. This operational rollout follows the successful signing of a transport service contract between UltraTech, EIM, and a specialized logistics service provider. Furthermore, the initiative directly aligns with the Government of India’s ongoing policy frameworks aimed at accelerating zero-emission commercial transport and modernizing national logistics.
Speaking on the development, K C Jhanwar, Managing Director, UltraTech Cement Limited, said, “India’s ambition for clean, energy-secure transportation demands industry action, and UltraTech is committed to being at the forefront. This deployment reflects our belief that decarbonising logistics is as strategic as decarbonising production. By shifting long-haul clinker movement to electric, we are aligning with the country’s stated objective to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels, while building a supply chain that is resilient, responsible, and future-ready.”
This deployment integrates into UltraTech’s broader "Green Logistics" roadmap, boosting its total eco-friendly transport fleet to over 750 vehicles. The company has historically pioneered alternative fuel adoption in India’s cement logistics ecosystem, having introduced Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks in 2021, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) trucks in 2022, and its first wave of electric trucks in 2024. As of the financial year 2026, UltraTech’s clean-energy fleet comprises 638 CNG trucks, 32 LNG trucks, and 89 electric trucks operational across various manufacturing zones, reflecting an ongoing, collaborative effort with its logistics partners to phase out traditional diesel dependency.
