Govt approves ₹132.51 crore ROB to ease congestion at Kandla Port
ROB project at Deendayal Port to boost cargo flow, cut congestion under Sagarmala and PM Gati Shakti initiatives

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, has approved the construction of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) at LC-235 at Deendayal Port Authority at an estimated cost of ₹132.51 crore, aimed at easing cargo movement and reducing congestion at the port.
The project is part of the Government of India’s Sagarmala Programme and aligns with the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan to improve multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency. The construction is being carried out by Western Railway on a deposit basis.
Sonowal said the project will remove key bottlenecks, improve cargo movement and strengthen logistics efficiency. He added that the ROB will support the development of integrated infrastructure, enhance safety and contribute to economic growth while reinforcing India’s position as a global maritime hub.
The proposal was recently appraised by the Delegated Investment Board in a meeting chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The revised project cost was reviewed to ensure compliance with updated safety standards and technical specifications.
The ROB is expected to address existing logistical constraints at the port by enabling smooth movement across the rail crossing. It will help ensure uninterrupted cargo flow, improve operational efficiency and reduce congestion, leading to faster cargo evacuation.
The Ministry has also directed all major ports to map their projects on the PM Gati Shakti portal to improve coordination, enhance synchronisation of multi-modal projects and accelerate infrastructure development.
