The Khurda Road Division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced that the division handled a staggering 209 million tonnes (MT) of traffic up to November of the current financial year.

This figure, which includes 115 MT of loading and 94 MT of unloading, places Khurda Road firmly ahead of its closest competitors. The Bilaspur division followed with 169.6 MT, while Dhanbad and Chakradharpur divisions recorded 152.8 MT and 145.8 MT respectively.

The division crossed 200 million tonnes in just 235 days of the current fiscal year. This is the fastest any division in Indian Railways history has reached this figure, besting Khurda Road's own previous record of 250 days set during the 2024-25 fiscal.

The division clocked 14.441 MT of loading, marking the first time it has ever breached the 14-MT mark in the month of November. This performance surpassed previous bests of 12.990 MT recorded in 2023 and 12.780 MT in 2021.

Freight revenue for November 2025 stood at ₹1,370.64 crore, a sharp 19.9% increase from the ₹1,143.20 crore earned in November 2024. Significantly, revenue growth outpaced the increase in loading volume, pointing to a superior freight mix, better realisation per tonne, and strengthened logistics management.

This record-breaking performance comes despite significant weather challenges. The Division successfully navigated disruptions caused by cyclonic conditions and heavy rainfall during the period.

Officials attributed this resilience to meticulous planning, tight coordination, and advanced real-time monitoring systems that ensured uninterrupted supply chains.
