Jupiter Wagons secures ₹11.4 bn railway wagon order
Jupiter Wagons has secured an ₹11.4 billion order from the Ministry of Railways to manufacture and supply 2,583 freight wagons.

Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has secured an order worth ₹11.4 billion, including taxes, from the Ministry of Railways for the manufacture and supply of 2,583 freight wagons.
Announced on October 29, 2026, the order covers two wagon types, BOXNHL and BOXNS, and reinforces the company’s position in Indian Railways’ freight wagon procurement programme.
Alongside its railway business, Jupiter Wagons said its private-sector order book remains strong, supported by demand from private freight operators, wagon leasing companies and core-sector customers. The company expects to secure additional orders worth approximately ₹20 billion in the fourth quarter of FY27.
The near-term demand outlook has also received a boost from a recently released Ministry of Railways tender for the procurement of 5,800 BOBRN wagons.
Commenting on the order, Vivek Lohia, Managing Director of Jupiter Wagons, said the award reflected Indian Railways’ continued confidence in the company’s delivery capabilities. He highlighted its backward integration across the wagon value chain, including castings, bogies, couplers and brake systems, as well as plans to extend integration to wheelsets through its Odisha facility.
According to the company, these capabilities help improve cost control, product quality and delivery timelines.
The order aligns with the government’s efforts to increase the share of rail in India’s freight movement under the National Rail Plan. Wagon procurement, alongside Dedicated Freight Corridors and the PM Gati Shakti initiative, is expected to support the development of a more efficient freight transportation network.
