Indian Railways reported an increase in fertilizer loading, reaching 17,168 rakes as of November 30th. This figure represents an 11.7% rise compared to the 15,369 rakes loaded during the corresponding period last year.
According to the official press release, the prioritised movement of fertilizer and foodgrain trains is a strategic effort to ensure an uninterrupted supply to states.
This is critical as agriculture is the backbone of India’s economy, and farmers require fertilizers on schedule for both sowing and harvesting cycles. By strengthening essential freight services, the Railways is directly supporting rural livelihoods, enhancing food security, and contributing to overall economic stability.
The commitment to timely delivery is having a tangible impact at the farm level. Through the prioritised movement of fertilizer rakes, the Railways helps maintain continuous supplies to farmers, enabling them to carry out their agricultural activities without delay, release added.
This support, in turn, facilitates higher crop productivity, stabilizes farm incomes, and reinforces national food security.
Furthermore, the increased reliance on rail transport for these essential goods offers a greener and more reliable logistics solution, as it reduces carbon emissions and helps to decongest major highways.
The Indian Railways continues to prioritize its freight operations to maintain this vital link, ensuring the stability and success of India’s agriculture sector.
