In a landmark development for Jammu and Kashmir, the first freight train has arrived in the Kashmir Valley, connecting the region to the national freight network for the first time. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the event as a great day for commerce and connectivity, emphasising that it will boost both progress and prosperity in the Union Territory.

The Prime Minister’s remarks came in response to a post by Union Minister for Railways, Communications and Electronics & IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announcing the arrival. Taking to X, PM Modi said, “Great day for commerce and connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir! It will enhance both progress and prosperity.”

The arrival of the freight train is being seen as a significant milestone in integrating the Valley’s economy with the rest of India, offering new opportunities for trade and development. The move is also expected to improve the transportation of goods, reduce transit times, and enhance supply chain efficiency within the region.
