Geopolitical shifts & supply chain resilience take stage at GPLS 2025
The event opened with a keynote by Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General, Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, on global trends.
“We are witnessing rising global uncertainty, wars like Russia and Ukraine, economic dominance, and the unpredictable global order,” said Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, at the keynote address at the eighth edition of the Global Pharma Logistics Summit (GPLS 2025).
Hosted at the Fairmont, Mumbai, GPLS 2025 brought together industry leaders, experts, and innovators for a day of impactful dialogue around the future of pharma logistics. The event opened with a compelling Keynote Address by Jain, who offered deep insights into the rapidly evolving global landscape, marked by geopolitical tensions, economic shifts, and technological disruption.
During the keynote, Jain added, “In such times, we must ask: how do we respond to economic, technological, and AI dominance?” A strong advocate for future readiness, he emphasised the critical role of AI in transforming pharma logistics and operations.
“We must invest in AI, adopt emerging technologies, and most importantly, upgrade talent across the board. The future belongs to those who can adapt,” added Jain.
He also reflected on the COVID-19 pandemic as a major moment for India, highlighting the country’s success in vaccine self-reliance and underlining the need to build resilient, self-sustaining supply chains within the pharmaceutical sector.
Jain stressed the strategic importance of logistics, calling it the backbone of the pharma industry.
“Logistics and manufacturing must work in synergy to ensure that medicines and vaccines reach patients on time. Collaboration across the ecosystem is essential, and yes, we can make it happen.”
He concluded by acknowledging the growing influence of geopolitical and environmental forces, reminding the industry that adaptability will be key to navigating the challenges ahead.
The keynote set the tone for an engaging day at GPLS 2025, with panels and discussions focused on innovation, risk mitigation, digitalisation, and collaboration in the global pharma supply chain.
