DHL Group, the world’s leading logistics company, has announced an investment of around EUR 1 billion in India by 2030, reinforcing its confidence in the country’s strong economic growth and strategic importance. The multi-year programme aligns with the Group’s Strategy 2030 – Accelerate Sustainable Growth and will strengthen its operations across all business units in India.
The investment covers key sectors such as life sciences and healthcare, new energy, e-commerce, and digitalisation. Major developments include the first DHL Health Logistics hub in Bhiwandi, India’s largest low-emission integrated operating facility for Blue Dart in Bijwasan, an automatic sorting centre for DHL Express in Delhi, a new IT Services Centre in Indore, and EV and Battery Logistics Centres of Excellence in Chennai and Mumbai.
Tobias Meyer, CEO of DHL Group, said global trade continues to face challenges, but India’s dynamic market, diversification strategy, and business-friendly policies make it a key growth region. “With our investment programme of around EUR 1 billion, we are expanding reliable and more sustainable logistics solutions for our customers in India,” Meyer said.
According to DHL’s Global Connectedness Tracker, India’s combined merchandise and services exports grew 6.18% between April and August 2025. The country’s exports now reach 24 destinations across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, with goods travelling an average distance of 6,190 kilometres this year. “India’s trade diversification strategy is starting to pay dividends,” said R.S. Subramanian, SVP – South Asia and Managing Director, DHL Express India.
In the life sciences and healthcare sector, DHL has launched its first Health Logistics Excellence Centre in Mumbai, expanding its cold chain network of over 30 facilities nationwide. The 150,000-square-foot Bhiwandi facility will strengthen end-to-end solutions for temperature-sensitive supply chains. Vikas Anand, Managing Director, DHL Supply Chain India, said the investment builds on government policies such as the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and the National Medical Devices Policy that are driving sector growth.
Under the new energy focus, DHL Global Forwarding is setting up an EV and Battery Logistics Centre of Excellence in Chennai by the fourth quarter of 2025, with expansion to Mumbai in 2026. Managing Director Edwin Pinto said the initiative aligns with India’s targets for electric mobility and renewable energy, including 500 GW of non-fossil fuel-based capacity by 2030.
In the e-commerce segment, DHL and Blue Dart will enhance automation, network capacity, and last-mile delivery infrastructure to serve India’s fast-growing market. “With the e-commerce market projected to reach USD 345 billion by 2030, this investment reinforces our position in powering India’s growth story,” said Balfour Manuel, Managing Director, Blue Dart.
As part of its sustainability goals, DHL aims to reduce its absolute CO₂ emissions to 29 million metric tons by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2050. In India, the company operates over 700 electric vehicles and recently inaugurated Blue Dart’s low-emission facility in Delhi. More than 9,000 Indian customers have already joined DHL’s GoGreen Plus programme, which promotes sustainable logistics using renewable fuels and electric mobility.
The Group is also expanding its digital capabilities through the establishment of its fifth IT Services Centre in Indore and a new technology training academy to develop skills in automation, artificial intelligence, and digital operations. With over 1,300 digital and logistics professionals, India has become one of DHL’s fastest-growing technology hubs.
