Amazon India adds 20 fulfilment centres, 150 delivery stations

Amazon India has announced its largest-ever operations network expansion ahead of the festive season, adding 20 fulfilment centres, six sort centres and 150 last-mile delivery stations across the country.

The expansion will increase Amazon India's total storage capacity by 50% to 64 million cubic feet. The company said its network investments have helped expand same-day delivery coverage to 30% more cities over the past year.

The expansion is also focused on non-metro markets. All six new sort centres and seven of the new fulfilment centres are being launched in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Amazon will open its first fulfilment centres in Raipur, Ranchi and Varanasi. The new sort centres in Chikkaballapur, Hassan, Meerut, Ramanagar, Raipur and Varanasi will increase Amazon India's total sortation area by 25%, from 2.4 million to 3 million square feet.

The company is also adding 150 last-mile delivery stations across 118 cities, including Asansol, Bathinda, Bikaner, Coimbatore, Madurai, Nellore, Puri, Siliguri and Solapur. Twelve cities will receive an Amazon last-mile delivery station for the first time.

The expansion is part of Amazon India's previously announced investment of more than ₹2,800 crore (about $300 million) to strengthen its operations network and the technology supporting its infrastructure.

Abhinav Singh, Vice President – Operations, India, APAC, Middle East, Türkiye and Africa, Amazon, said the company is investing in its logistics network to bring operations closer to customers and sellers and improve delivery reliability.

The expanded infrastructure will support Amazon's range of delivery options, including Amazon Now's delivery in minutes, as well as same-day and next-day services.

Amazon is also preparing for higher festive-season demand by creating 160,000 seasonal job opportunities across its core and quick-commerce operations network in 400 cities.

The latest expansion strengthens Amazon India's fulfilment, sortation and last-mile network while extending its logistics reach deeper into smaller cities and towns.
