Maersk and CATL join forces to electrify global supply chains
Maersk and CATL partner to electrify global supply chains, boost decarbonisation and logistics efficiency.

Maersk and CATL have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to accelerate decarbonisation across global supply chains and strengthen CATL’s international logistics. The partnership positions Maersk as CATL’s preferred global logistics provider, delivering services across ocean freight, air freight, project logistics, and warehousing.
The MoU, signed on 9 October in Hong Kong, builds on five years of collaboration between the two companies. Morten Bo Christiansen, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Energy Transition at Maersk, and Akin Li, Executive President of Overseas Car Business at CATL, signed the agreement. The ceremony was witnessed by Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of Maersk, and Libin Tan, Chief Customer Officer and Co-President of Sales & Marketing at CATL.
Under the new agreement, the companies will jointly develop tailored, scalable solutions to maintain supply chain resilience in a changing global environment. Maersk and CATL will also focus on electrifying key supply chain nodes, including container shipping, port operations, inland transport, and warehousing, using CATL’s advanced battery technologies. The collaboration will include energy management, electric system design, and battery recycling solutions.
The partnership supports Maersk’s goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 and CATL’s ambition to become a zero-carbon technology company, with carbon neutrality targeted in its core operations by 2025 and across its battery supply chain by 2035. Both companies aim to deepen cooperation in shipping, digitalisation, end-to-end supply chain management, and new energy applications, setting a benchmark for decarbonising logistics globally.
“Merging CATL’s cutting-edge battery technologies with Maersk’s integrated logistics capabilities allows us to redefine what’s possible in logistics and accelerate decarbonisation for the industry,” said Morten Bo Christiansen.
Libin Tan added, “Our collaboration with Maersk leverages global logistics and advanced energy technologies to create scalable electrification solutions, accelerating the energy transition in the logistics sector.”
