The Government of India has reassured full support to exporters facing challenges from the recent hike in United States tariffs. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman gave the assurance during a meeting with a delegation of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) in New Delhi on 28th August 2025.

The FIEO team, led by its President S C Ralhan, raised concerns over the adverse impact of higher tariffs on India’s market access, competitiveness, and job creation. The delegation included Vice President Ravikant Kapur, Director General and CEO Ajay Sahai, Farida Group Director Israr Ahmed and EEPC Chairman Pankaj Chadha.

Ralhan emphasised the immediate difficulties exporters are facing and sought quick policy measures to ease the burden. He pointed out that exporters have been vital in driving India’s economic growth and generating employment.

Responding to the concerns, Sitharaman assured that the Government stands firmly with Indian exporters and will explore all possible steps to safeguard their interests. She stressed the importance of protecting workers’ livelihoods and urged industry leaders to reassure employees of job continuity despite global challenges.

Expressing gratitude, Ralhan said the Finance Minister’s reassurance has boosted the confidence of the exporting community. He added that her commitment reflects the priority given to protecting India’s trade interests and employment.

FIEO also reaffirmed its pledge to work closely with the Government to overcome current challenges, diversify export markets, and strengthen India’s position in global trade.
