FIEO signs MoU with Sri Lanka’s National Chamber to boost bilateral trade
Virtual signing marks milestone in India-Sri Lanka trade ties with focus on exporters and joint initiatives.

The Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka (NCE) to strengthen bilateral trade and promote deeper economic cooperation between India and Sri Lanka.
The MoU was signed virtually and marked a milestone in trade relations between the two countries. The ceremony saw participation from key dignitaries and business leaders, including Dr Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO of FIEO; Mr Suvidha Shah, Additional Director General of FIEO; Dr Rambabu C, First Secretary (Political) and Head of Chancery at the High Commission of India in Colombo; Mr Indra Kaushal Rajapakse, President of NCE; and Mr Shiham Marikar, Secretary General and CEO of NCE.
The agreement sets up a framework to improve trade ties by creating stronger networking opportunities for exporters of both countries. It also seeks to encourage joint trade initiatives such as participation in trade fairs, exhibitions and buyer-seller meetings. The MoU will also support the exchange of trade delegations and market information, while assisting exporters through capacity-building programmes and sector-specific cooperation.
Commenting on the partnership, Dr Ajay Sahai said the MoU is a timely and strategic step that will act as a catalyst for increasing trade volumes, opening new business opportunities and further strengthening the historical and economic relations between India and Sri Lanka.
The agreement is expected to contribute significantly to the growth of bilateral trade and investment by using the strengths of both countries, enhancing competitiveness and improving market access. It reflects the shared commitment of FIEO and NCE to support their export communities and contribute to the long-term growth of India-Sri Lanka trade ties.
