CONCOR to move UltraTech’s cement via rail tank container
This shift is projected to benefit a more sustainable, efficient, and reliable alternative for the cement industry.

Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), a Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Railways, has entered into an agreement with UltraTech Cement, India's largest cement manufacturer, to leverage specialised tank containers to move bulk cement via rail across identified corridors.
This marks a first-of-its-kind large-scale initiative in India designed to effect a crucial modal shift, moving large-scale cement logistics from road to rail.
Under the collaboration, CONCOR will provide dedicated rakes for this specialised service. This shift is projected to deliver benefits, promising a more sustainable, efficient, and reliable alternative for the cement industry.
By utilising the extensive network of Indian Railways and CONCOR's logistics expertise, the partnership is expected to streamline cement supply chains, substantially reduce road congestion and lower transportation costs, while also achieving a significant cut in carbon emissions.
This agreement follows CONCOR's successful introduction of these specialised tank containers in July.
The purpose-built tank containers are designed specifically to support the cement sector by enabling the efficient, safe, and eco-friendly bulk movement of cement in loose form.
This process reduces the industry's dependence on conventional bagged transport, thereby enhancing the operational efficiency of cement companies and aligning with India’s national push for green, multimodal logistics solutions.
