Amazon India has entered into a strategic partnership with the Army Welfare Placement Organization (AWPO) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to create career opportunities for ex-servicemen, military spouses, and war widows across its operations in the country.

The collaboration highlights Amazon’s focus on tapping into the discipline, resilience, and leadership skills of the military community while easing their transition into corporate roles. Under the MoU, Amazon India will share relevant job openings with AWPO, which works extensively with veterans, military spouses, and war widows. The partnership will also see Amazon conduct awareness sessions such as webinars and workshops to guide applicants through available opportunities and career growth pathways.

“At Amazon, our commitment to building a diverse workforce and an inclusive workplace is paramount. Veterans and military spouses exemplify leadership principles such as Bias for Action and Ownership, making them a natural fit for our culture. This partnership with AWPO deepens our support for ex-service personnel and their families,” said Deepti Varma, Vice President – People Experience and Technology at Amazon Stores India, Japan, and Emerging Markets.

Maj Gen Ajay Singh Chauhan, Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal (Retd.), Managing Director at AWPO, welcomed the initiative, stating, “This collaboration strengthens our mission to connect deserving veterans, military spouses, and war widows with meaningful employment opportunities. These individuals bring exceptional resilience and diverse skills to the workforce, and this structured pathway will enhance their economic independence.”

Amazon has already onboarded hundreds of military veterans into its workforce in India. The company also runs dedicated initiatives like “Warriors at Amazon,” a peer mentorship network, as well as tailored career support and interview preparation for the military community. Globally, Amazon supports military families through programs such as the Military Hiring Program and Military Spouse Fellowship Program.

The partnership with AWPO underscores Amazon’s broader commitment to inclusion, extending opportunities for underrepresented groups, including women, people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, veterans, and military families.
