JNPT’s loading yard for Dedicated Freight Corridor will be ready by June 2021: Sanjay Sethi

February 11, 2020: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) chairman Sanjay Sethi IAS informed that the under-construction loading yard at JNPT for Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) will be open for business by June 2021.

February 11, 2020: Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) chairman Sanjay Sethi IAS informed that the under-construction loading yard at JNPT for Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) will be open for business by June 2021. He was discussing the rail projects going on in JNPT with Railway Board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav, officials of Indian Railways & DFCCIL on February 10 at the port.

JNPT’s rail connectivity across nation

Today, JNPT serves more than 50 different ICD locations all over the country and additionally, there are rail movements to 3 CFSs which have rail connectivity. Currently, the JNPT-DFCC Loading yard is under construction and will be ready by June 2021. DFC will be a game-changer by providing freight only corridor, making it an economical, faster & more reliable option to move goods between JNPT & the Northern hinterland. Upgrading of transportation technology, increase in productivity and reduction in unit transportation cost are also the focus areas of the DFC project.

Joining hands

To fast-track the ongoing railway projects at the Navi Mumbai seaport, the meeting agreed to form a committee of officials from Central Railway, DFCCIL, CONCOR & JNPT.

From 116.09 to 66.16 hours dwell time

The JNPT chairman highlighted the increase in rail traffic and the decrease in the dwell time of import containers moved by rail. For the period (Apr 18 to Mar 19) the dwell time has improved from 116.09 hours to 66.16 hours. The major initiatives undertaken like simplification of processes, digitization & new ITRHO Agreement have helped to increase the overall rail share at JNPT.

Ludhiana to JNPT dedicated weekly train

Last year, JNPT along with the private Port Terminals (DP World, APM Terminals and PSA Terminal) in coordination with CONCOR reached out to the Trade at Ludhiana where the commencement of a weekly dedicated train from Ludhiana to JN Port every Saturday was announced as per the suggestion by the trade community in Ludhiana.
