GoAir offers its aircraft, pilots and crew to govt for emergency services
March 27, 2020: GoAir, the Wadia-Group controlled low-cost carrier, has reached out to the ministry of civil aviation and the DGCA and offered its aircraft, pilots, cabin crew and airport staff to carry out emergency services and repatriation of citizens in the wake of a complete lockdown across the nation.
March 27, 2020: GoAir, the Wadia-Group controlled low-cost carrier, has reached out to the ministry of civil aviation and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and offered its aircraft, pilots, cabin crew and airport staff to carry out emergency services and repatriation of citizens in the wake of a complete lockdown across the nation.
The letter submitted to the ministry offers the following services:
● Ship cargo on behalf of the government
● Ship essential services such as medicines, food grains et al
● Ship manpower who would carry out the emergency services: doctors, nurses, paramedics, relief workers
● Repatriate Indian citizens who are stuck overseas and bring them back home
● Repatriate expats in our country back to their base countries
● Repatriate Indian citizens within our various states and Union Territories
“GoAir has always maintained a ‘nation before company’ approach and the airline is fully supportive of the initiatives announced by our Prime Minister. In fact, GoAir was the only airline to respond to Prime Minister’s clarion call to observe Janata Curfew and we suspended all our flights on Sunday 22nd March 2020. With our state-of-the-art fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft, GoAir is on stand-by for any flight that the government may want us to fly,” said Jeh Wadia, managing director, GoAir.
GoAir is the aviation foray of India’s 283-year-old Wadia Group that comprises brands including 156-year-old Bombay Burmah, 140-year-old Bombay Dyeing, 101-year-old Britannia Ltd., 65-year-old National Peroxide Limited and the decade-old Bombay Realty. The 14-year old airline has flown 82.5 million passengers since its inception in 2005.
GoAir flies to 35 destinations that include 27 domestic destinations namely Ahmedabad, Aizawl, Bagdogra, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Delhi, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Kannur, Leh, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Port Blair, Pune, Ranchi, Srinagar and Varanasi, as well as 8 international destinations namely Phuket, Male, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bangkok, Kuwait, and Dammam.
