Airbus has announced the appointment of Jürgen Westermeier as its new President and Managing Director for India and the South Asia region, effective from 1 September 2025. He will take over from Rémi Maillard, who will move on to become Executive Vice-President Engineering for Commercial Aircraft and Head of Technology at Airbus.

In his new role, Jürgen will lead Airbus’ operations across India and South Asia, covering Commercial Aircraft, Defence and Space, and Helicopters. He will also oversee sales of commercial aircraft and focus on expanding Airbus’ presence in the region. His responsibilities will include services, engineering, digital, innovation, and training. Supporting India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative will also be a key part of his role.

Jürgen, 53, currently serves as Executive Vice-President and Chief Procurement Officer at Airbus. Since joining the company in 2020, he has led procurement across all divisions, forming strong supplier partnerships and streamlining procurement processes and tools.

Before Airbus, Jürgen held several strategic positions at BMW from 1998 onwards, including roles in Information Services, Motorcycles Purchasing, Quality Management and Supplier Network, and Cost Engineering. He holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Karlsruhe, Germany.
