December 7, 2017: Delhi International Cargo Terminal (DICT) has flagged off a dedicated rake of 90 TEUs of rice shipments to Pipavav. DICT is strategically located in the rice belt of Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal, etc. to serve the rice exporters of the area, offering 24×7 state-of-art operational ease, with no traffic barriers, end-to-end services through transportation, warehousing, terminal stuffing of agricultural commodities and on-time rail movements towards ports.
DICT currently sends rice shipments to Mundra on a daily basis, supporting the trade with approximately 2,500 TEUs a month for rice cargo alone. Yet, rice movement to Pipavav for a single customer through a single shipping line is in effect creating history in the north Indian trade, highlighted a recent press release.
The movement was undertaken with the support of Maersk Line and LT Foods for the latter’s shipment to Rotterdam. The expected arrival at the port of destination is December 8, 2017. DICT had a flag off of the rice block train with its rake TXBT-13 on November 6, 2017, which was graced by senior officials of Maersk, LT Foods and DICT.
DICT, promoted by J. M. Baxi, the country’s leading logistics group, has 12 dedicated rakes for ports to cater to the exim business of the hinterland catchment area. It currently operates daily services to Mundra, weekly service to Kandla, 2 services to Pipavav and 3 services to JNPT. Such facilitation has helped it cater for customers with 7,500 TEUs of throughput a month.
