Assam exports first Purabi Ice Cream consignment to Bhutan
The shipment includes 5,627 litres of ice cream and is expected to create new income opportunities for dairy farmers while expanding exports from North East India.
Assam has exported its first consignment of Purabi Ice Cream to the Kingdom of Bhutan, marking a milestone for the state's dairy sector. The shipment of 5,627 litres was flagged off by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
The export was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). It aims to expand exports of value-added dairy products from North East India and strengthen cross-border agricultural trade with Bhutan.
According to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, the consignment was exported by the West Assam Milk Producers' Cooperative Union. He said the initiative reflects the growing strength and global competitiveness of India's dairy sector.
Goyal added that the export is expected to create new income opportunities, improve access to international markets and strengthen the livelihoods of dairy farmers across the North Eastern region.
