Gujarat Pipavav Port (GPPL) on 3 December has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NYK India to upgrade its Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo) infrastructure. The agreement aims to expand the port's capacity to handle 500,000 vehicles annually.
The partnership will focus on developing high-quality facilities designed to reduce dwell time and ensure seamless synchronisation between vessels and rail freight.
A key component of this upgrade is readiness for the Electric Vehicle (EV) transition, ensuring the port can handle the specialised logistics required for next-generation automotive exports.
Performance
In November 2025, Gujarat Pipavav Port handled a record-breaking 25,529 RoRo units, marking an 18% growth over its previous record of 21,686 units set just two months prior.
Operational efficiency was further highlighted by the handling of 48 NMG (New Modified Goods) car rakes during the month. In a single operation, the port executed the year’s largest shipment, loading 5,024 vehicles onto the vessel MV Centaurus Leader.
In a statement on LinkedIn, the company said, “A big shoutout to our key partners Maruti Suzuki India and Honda Cars India, for driving export volumes, and to the entire GPPL team for setting new benchmarks.”
