Cochin Shipyard announces retirement of CMD Madhu S. Nair; Jose V J takes charge

Cochin Shipyard (CSL), has announced a transition in its leadership with Madhu Sankunny Nair officially retired as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) on January 31, 2026.

To maintain operational momentum, the company confirmed that Jose V J, the current Director (Finance), has assumed additional charge as the CMD effective February 1, 2026.

Under the leadership of Madhu Sankunny Nair, Cochin Shipyard solidified its reputation as India's maritime and defense infrastructure. His tenure was characterised by a capacity expansion, enhancing CSL’s operational footprint to handle complex ship repair and construction projects.

The company, in a statement shared via LinkedIn, lauded Nair’s vision in steering CSL toward sustained growth and institutional excellence.

The appointment of Jose V J provides the board with experienced oversight during the search for a permanent successor.

According to official filings, Jose V J will hold the additional charge for a period of three months, or until further orders are issued by the government, whichever comes first.
