Shipping Secretary visits JNPT

July 10, 2017: Ravi Kant, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping recently visited the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) and inspected the container terminals and other facilities. JNPT chairman Anil Diggikar, deputy chairman Neeraj Bansal accompanied Kant on the tour of the port. Also present were Barun Mitra, joint secretary and Shipra Sharma, director of ports, Ministry of Shipping.

Kant inaugurated the JNPT-APEC Training Centre Guest House and visited the training centre during his visit. He also launched the JNPT quarterly e-newsletter 'JNPT Connect’ which would reach more than 700 valuable clients of JNPT. Clients will also be able to give their suggestions and comments on the newsletter to help JNPT officials take the necessary step to ensure that doing business at the port is hassle free.

“I am most pleased with the innovative solutions and new initiatives that the management has implemented at JNPT to promote the central governments’ Ease of Doing Business agenda. JNPT is one of the most important ports in India and continues to be an outperformer on all parameters,” Kant said at the end of his day long visit.

Earlier in the day, the secretary visited the JNPT SEZ site, CFS facilities, NSCIT holding yard to see the Document Processing Zone and the Tank farm area along with plots which are to be auctioned. He also visited the Shallow Water Berth to witness the berthing and marine operations and JN Port’s main container berth and container yard.

He also inspected the ICD, VTMS and RFID operations and commended the work done by JNPT.

Bansal briefed the secretary on JNPT's ongoing and future projects. A presentation was made to showcase the port and terminal operational and financial performance. A presentation on Ease of Doing Business initiatives and a demo of the JNPT website was conducted along with a live demo of the successful road decongestion measures taken by the port. Kant was also briefed on the progress of critical projects at JNPT and plans for the SEZ, tank farm and land use at the port.
